Several pro heroes helped Izuku Midoriya gain control over One for All. When he inherited One for All from All Might, he could not control the powerful quirk and often hurt himself. But through training, he learned to control the explosiveness of the quirk. Sorahiko Torino, popular as Gran Torino, trained him to travel faster using the quirk.
Gran Torino’s quirk is named Jet, and it has quite a history behind it. It was tough to discover so many quirks, so Kohei Horikoshi used to carefully observe his surroundings. He would get inspired by things of his daily use. Gran Torino’s Jet is one of the quirks inspired by this mannerism.

Kohei Horikoshi’s masterpiece was packed with different types of quirks. Whenever a new character was introduced, he had to go think about what quirk the character would have. So, he used to get inspired by the things he was surrounded by. During an interview, he mentioned Gran Torino’s Jet was inspired by a Shower Handle while he was taking a bath. His shoes, the holes in them, the way of steam coming out, etc., resembled a shower Handle.
Kohei Horikoshi said,
“Back when the series first started, sometimes in order to move the story forward or make sure characters fought, that is how Quirks were sometimes inspired. But, since then, it has been more of a “light bulb’ or “Ah Ha” moment — by being inspired by the things around me. For example, with Gran Torino, I came up with his Quirk when I was taking a shower. I looked at the shower head and was like, “Oh, that would be cool… for something to come out of his feet.” Like, have propellant coming out of them. So, that is how his Quirk was inspired.”

Horikoshi barely had any time to relax in the past ten years. He was always thinking about the future of his manga. Before the serialization began, he may have thought of multiple quirks, but as the story progresses, the characters also increase. So, it becomes difficult to keep up with the quirks. Horikoshi was always in a state of working. Even when relaxing and taking a hot shower, he was trying to find quirk ideas.

Kohei Horikoshi began My Hero Academia’s serialization in 2024. After a couple of years, it was adapted into an anime and became a household name among the otakus. Izuku Midoriya had to go through a perilous journey to end All for One once and all. He had his friends and mentors who guided him in each step. After ten long years, the journey of the greatest Pro-Hero came to an end. Deku became a teacher at UA to guide the next generation of heroes, following the footsteps of All Might.
On August 5, 2024, Horikoshi announced a global popularity poll, which will be conducted over two months. While fans have been excited to know who will end up being the most popular character, a certain section of the fandom was unsatisfied with the conclusion. Whether it was a good ending will be up for debate. But now Kohei Horikoshi can enjoy a shower without thinking out quirks.
My Hero Academia can be streamed on Crunchyroll, and the manga is available on Viz Media.
