The Kung Fu Panda franchise has earned its place as one of the most cherished animated series worldwide, and it’s not without reason. Featuring exceptional characters brought to life by stellar voice acting and a straightforward yet compelling plot, each installment in the trilogy showcases significant growth and development for the main character, Po. With that said, Jack Black was confused over one notable promotional step for Kung Fu Panda.

The Kung Fu Panda trilogy concluded nearly 8 years ago, and there was a general belief that we would not see more of the characters. However, DreamWorks Animation has surprised fans by announcing another Kung Fu Panda movie, which has already been released this week.

While speaking on the Graham Norton Show, Jack Black recalled how he was in China to promote Kung Fu Panda but it made no sense to him as the Chinese version of the film didn’t have his face or voice.

I was in Korea and China yeah we went doing Kung Fu Panda we were doing Kung Fu Panda promotion, yeah. I know where you’re going it’s not my voice, they got a Chinese person doing the voice. It’s not my face, it’s a cartoon why am I there. Okay well because I think it helps to have a Bonafide Hollywood Legend there and then I do a high five to the Chinese actor and I pass the torch and I don’t know why I’m there. It was a fun trip.”

Jack Black then joked that it was likely because they needed a bonafide Hollywood legend. He then passed the torch onto the Chinese actor before admitting he didn’t know why he was there.

Kung Fu Panda 4 Might Lead To A New Trilogy

Director Mike Mitchell and producer Rebecca Huntley of Kung Fu Panda 4 recently took part in an interview with Next Best Picture. When questioned about the potential for the film to kick off a new trilogy, Mitchell didn’t confirm the franchise’s future but acknowledged that the possibility of a trilogy exists.

“It’s very possible. Like, I don’t think anyone will ever get tired of seeing Jack Black as this panda. I mean, he just is this panda. He comes up with all of the ‘skadooshes,’ all the ‘sha-sha-booeys’ and stuff. We could watch him forever. That said, we have made the most epic chapter of this franchise here.”

Mitchell also teased the introduction of numerous new characters in the movie. However, he acknowledged that the abundance of new characters might not necessarily be viewed as entirely positive, raising intriguing possibilities for the film.

Kung Fu Panda 4 was released in the USA on March 7th and so far the reception for the movie has been positive, if not overwhelmingly great. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see if fans will see more movies in the future when it comes to the overall franchise.
