The latest in this list is “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One”. It is the eighth movie of the Tommorverse and the first of a proposed trilogy. In a recent interview, the creative minds behind the latest Justice League movie shed light on the fascinating behind-the-scenes process of bringing these animated adventures to life.

DC Had To Retro Engineer Entire Tomorrowverse to Get to Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths

Adapting classic comics for animations can be a tightrope walk. Fans love to compare the adaptations with the source materials, which they hardly remember. However, everyone does remember the broad outline and the brilliant artwork by the original artists. Sometimes, this recollection paints a brighter picture than reality.

Adapting these tales becomes a delicate dance of honoring fan expectations while ensuring the narrative resonates with a new audience. This was also a challenge with Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths and the basically whole of the Tommorowverse. Thus, the creators had to work out ways to tackle this “really tricky” part, as revealed by the writer Jim Krieg in an interview with Comingsoon.

“Jim, how was it structuring these films and deciding when to stop and start each one? How is that process of finding the natural ending points and plotting this out?”

“It was really tricky because there’s so much in this series… And a lot of times, you reread these as an adult and you go, “Oh, there’s some hanging chads here. It isn’t exactly what I remember.” … There are big moments that we all remember. In terms of Crisis, it’s often the comic book covers themselves that were huge moments that we wanted to build to.

.. We remember the art more than we remember the words and the story… So we kind of had to retro engineer to get to those in the same way we retro engineered the entire Tomorrowverse to get to Crisis. We had to build in all those characters and all those relationships to get to a point where we could heartlessly kill them.” – Jim Krieg

Jim Krieg also implied how all of Tommorowverse essentially revolves around Infinite Crisis. Determining the order of the movies is very crucial in a cinematic universe. The whole of the Tommorowverse had to be retro-engineered to get to Crisis, which speaks tons of the trilogy’s weight.

It all began with Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2020). Since then, there has been a constant supply of quantity as well as quality from the universe with Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One marking the eighth release in the series. Two more movies of Infinite Crisis are set to release later this year. All the movies of the Tomorrowverse can be streamed on HBO Max.
