Muzan Kibutsuji’s Blood Curse in Demon Slayer

Muzan Kibutsuji is the antagonist in the manga Demon Slayer, written by Koyoharu Gotouge. He’s the 1000-year-old demon responsible for the creation of demons in the series, including the twelve kizuki. Apart from being the progenitor of demons, he’s one of the strongest demons in the series.

Besides, he’s one of the most hated characters in the series. While he’s able to create demons through his bloodline and manipulate them, how he does it isn’t clear in the series. To add to that, his demon curse allows him to create demons but doesn’t give complete mastery over them.

This burning question regarding Muzan’s ability to manipulate demons had fans pointing out several theories on the internet. A user @StantonMcChampion pointed out the blip regarding the antagonist’s ability on Reddit.

Muzan may not be a puppeteer, but he’s able to control and manipulate the demons through fear. This can be said with Susamaru aka The Temari Demon, who died because of Muzan’s curse as @Downstackguy pointed out on Reddit.

Although Susamaru’s death reflects Muzan’s powerful Demon curse, it also points out Nezuko’s and Tamayo’s resistance to it. This could further show that the antagonist may not outmaneuver his creations after all.

Tamayo and Nezuko’s resistance to Muzan’s Blood Curse

Apart from being created by Muzan’s blood, Tamayo and Nezuko are the only characters who aren’t under his direct control. Both characters held on to their humanity and fought their instincts well. Besides, Nezuko is resistant to sunlight and sustains herself without blood. Both characters can say Muzan’s name without actually getting killed.

Besides that, Tamayo and Nezuko are the only characters along with Yushiro who are resistant to Muzan’s control. Despite having his blood in her system, Tamayo can break free from mind control. Because of her medical prowess and expertise, she can master the creation of a drug with the potential to weaken him.

While both characters were the exception to the antagonist’s manipulation, fan theories speculate the reasons behind Tamayo and Nezuko’s immunity to his control. A user named @Food_Kid shared their theory regarding the same on Reddit.

Tamayo and Nezuko’s resistance to Muzan’s Demon Curse points to the ineffectiveness of it. It could also mean that Muzan may not control every other demon after all. While the theories pointed out by readers and viewers seem plausible and possible, there has been no confirmation of any sort in the manga.
