Tom Cruise Turned Down The Role Of Iron man 

Tom Cruise is best known for performing his stunts to add a realistic touch to his every project. This is surely one of the reasons why Cruise’s action movies are considered one of the best in the world. Cruise has carefully selected movies across his career to be a part of successful projects. But the Mission Impossible star had his own reason for turning down the role of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

“[Marvel Studios] came to me at a certain time and, when I do something, I wanna do it right. If I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I know it’s gonna be something special. And as it was lining up, it just didn’t feel to me like it was gonna work. I need to be able to make decisions and make the film as great as it can be, it just didn’t go down that road that way.”

Tom Cruise Admitted That Robert Downey Jr.’s Portrayal Of Iron man Is The Best

Robert Downey Jr. was first seen playing the role of Iron Man in the 2008 movie, Iron Man. Ever since then Robert Downey Jr. has reprised the fan-favorite role of Tony Stark in several Marvel movies. The performance of RDJ is surely impressive and has been appreciated by fans on several occasions. Cruise himself admitted that Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect match for the role of Iron Man.

Cruise said that RDJ has played the role of Iron Man for so long that it’s tough to imagine someone else including him playing the iconic role. He marked that he was not at all close to grabbing the superhero role. Cruise may have never played any superhero role till now but the future remains unknown and full of opportunities. One may never know when Top Gun: Maverick star will suit up to make his superhero debut. Cruise too hinted at the possibility of playing the superhero as his statement raised the hopes of fans’ high.

“Not close, and I love Robert Downey Jr. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role, and I think it’s perfect for him. I look at a movie and I don’t rule anything out. It’s, ‘What’s the story? Does it interest me? Do I feel this is where the audience would like to see me in? What can I learn?’ And ‘What can I contribute?’ That’s how I choose my movies.”

Cruise is not the only star who has turned down the hit superhero roles. It appears like Cruise has been taking inspiration from Edward Norton who dropped the role of Hulk. It looks like Cruise didn’t suffer any grave loss after missing his chance to play the role of Iron Man. The Mission Impossible star has been able to deliver blockbuster hits without associating his name with Marvel with the recent example of Top Gun: Maverick.
