“It kind of got more cohesive in time”: Tobey Maguire Calls Kevin Feige a Visionary for Bringing Together All Superheroes Amidst Blade Star Calling MCU Hot Garbage

Spider-Man: No Way Home was an utter menace in the best way possible, some call it fan service, and some call it a masterpiece. Spider-Man’s identity has always been hidden but with NWH everyone knows who he is and chaos begins to unfold. Peter’s life is now akin to that of celebrities, he is surrounded by paparazzi, death threats, love letters, and eventually supervillains.

To undo the damage Peter seeks the magical powers of Doctor Strange but everything goes wrong. Spells that Strange uses accidentally open up portals to all universes where every Villain from Spider-Man’s universe comes to Peter’s. With a lot of action, brainstorming, and a pinch of magic three Spider-Men come together to put an end to the death and destruction caused by the Villains.

This is what the star replied,

“I want to comment on the history of the genre. For me as a kid, I was watching Super Hero movies. In my experience there are plenty of terrific films and performers who take it seriously. It was maybe more erratic, and it kind of got more cohesive in time.”

The star appreciated the vision Kevin Feige has for the Marvel universe which is now expanding to a multiverse concept. He continues,

“I’ve heard people talk about how our Sam Raimi movies were some kind of influential turning point in these movies, which is really sweet and feels like an honor. And not to take away from all the great work that everybody did there, but for me, I have so much love and respect for what came before. I just wanted to acknowledge that!”

Spider-Man was already a favorite character amongst comic book readers so when the studio announced the first Spider-Man movie — comic book fans were excited and nervous. Excited because they get to see one of the most loved Marvel heroes on screen, nervous because there was a chance the adaptation would mess the whole thing up. But it did not fail, Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of Spider-Man was not just accepted but loved and celebrated by everyone.

After a break of fourteen years, Tobey Maguire reprises his role as Spider-Man in No Way Home along with Garfield and Holland.

In 2021 the actor, Stephen Dorff went viral after an interview with The Independent where he described how Black Window looks, he said she looks like  “Garbage”. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, the actor takes another swing at Marvel revealing that he would only star in films that were adapted from contemporary comic books like his film Blade. He said,

“were more like when I started when we made ‘Blade,’ or the few that have been decent over the years, like when Nolan did ‘The Dark Knight’ and reinvented Batman from Tim Burton.”

He continues,

“All this other garbage is just embarrassing, you know what I mean?” Dorff continued. “I mean, God bless them, they’re making a bunch of money, but their movies suck [laughs]. And nobody’s going to remember them. Nobody’s remembering ‘Black Adam’ at the end of the day. I didn’t even see that movie, it looked so bad.

The actor said that these franchises will not be able to survive if they keep “making Black Adam and worthless garbage over and over again.”

Blade, a hybrid vampire and mortal, turned into a vampire hunter to defend people. He stops the extinction of the human race by vampires. Marvel has included Blade in its Universe and is planning to bring it back. However they are unable to set sail with the project, this is what Stephen Dorff has to say about it,

“Marvel is used to me trashing them anyway. How’s that PG Blade movie going for you, that can’t get a director? [laughs] Because anybody who goes there is going to be laughed at by everyone because we already did it and made it the best. There’s no Steve Norrington out there.”

He continues,

“If the one or two a year that happen don’t, for whatever reason, cast me in a role, I’m not going to lose sleep over it because I wasn’t one of 50 people in ‘Oppenheimer.’ I mean, it looks cool, but to me, unless you’re playing Oppenheimer, I don’t want to be in that movie [laughs]. Unless it’s my friend’s movie, and then I’ll do a scene or pop-up.”

According to the actor, it is nearly impossible to make a good movie out of Blade. Dorff was candid and unabashedly thrashed Marvel. In another interview the actor talked about doing mainstream films, he said that he would love to do one if it is good. But the actor refuses to lose sleep over those that do not cast him.
