Tom Cruise’s On-Set Affair
While filming Risky Business, Tom Cruise interacted with quite a lot of people. The film helped the actor boost his career greatly as he worked on Taps only a year prior to it. An affair had sprouted during the shoot between Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay. While the actress was still together with Harry Dean Stanton, things got rather heated between the two actors.
“It’s no secret that Tom engaged in an intense affair during the shooting with De Mornay. Their romance was some time aborning. Part of the delay was caused by the presence of Harry Dean Stanton, who was involved with Rebecca. I suspect that most of Harry Dean’s great qualities were lost on Tom, who, I think, was beginning to regard him as a guest overstaying his welcome.”
Although the affair was one that everyone knew of, it came to an ultimate end once Sean Penn joined the shoot. Cruise and Penn had previously worked together on Taps and their chemistry was on a completely different level. Not only that, but rumors of his sexuality also came into being.
Tom Cruise’s Sexuality Has Been Questioned A Lot
Curtis Armstrong, who was Tom Cruise’s co-star in the movie, pointed out how he saw a change in the actor once Sean Penn showed up on set. What once was a spick and span room was turned into something that was perhaps never cleaned. Armstrong noted that Cruise had been one who always kept his place clean until Penn arrived. Moreover, his affair with Rebecca De Mornay also ended after that.
“Going into the room just a couple of days after Sean’s arrival was a revelation. It looked like someone had blown up a convention of rising young ’80s actors. There were clothes covering the entire floor. There was a heady scent to the place, too. A rich musk of dirty laundry, cigarette smoke, alcohol, and young white male. The curtains were drawn against the light no matter what time it was. The two of them, like as not, would either still be in bed or lounging in underwear. It looked like a Calvin Klein ad.”
Rumors about Cruise being homosexual or bisexual started rising subsequently afterward. Nicole Kidman, who the actor was once married to, was also asked about these claims. While the actress was shocked upon hearing about it; she immediately stated as to how she and him were never married out of convenience. In fact, she stood there to vouch for his heterosexuality. However, Penn’s involvement with the actor was always questioned and many began thinking about whether or not he was interested in men.
