Coming to terms with our mortality can be really hard especially when you’re almost mid-way through your journey and the same has been the case for one of the strongest Avengers.
Despite being the fan-favorite of one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood, taking a break from the industry and spending time with his family have provided a new perspective to the actor. Even though the Avengers star is not quite delighted by the fact that he is turning old, he does express what he wants his legacy to be.
Chris Hemsworth reflects on his life and what he wants to be remembered as
Even though Chris Hemsworth remains one of the biggest stars to emerge from the MCU, surprisingly the actor doesn’t want to be remembered for his movies. Following the death of his grandpa, the actor stressed that his uncle calling his late grandfather “a good bloke “stuck with him. Although he will return for more projects after his hiatus from the industry amid the increasing risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Hemsworth reflects he wants people to remember him as a good person. The actor explains,
“It made me think about my own life. And it wasn’t about a career or anything. It was about being remembered as someone who was good and kind and contributed something of value. I certainly don’t think about the films I’m going to leave behind and how people are going to remember me in that sense. I hope that people think of me fondly and that I was a good person. That I was a good bloke. Like my grandpa.”
Apart from opening up about his existential crisis and coming to terms with his own mortality, Hemsworth also opened up about the criticisms against the MCU and how it affected him.
The criticisms against Marvel were super depressing for Chris Hemsworth
Although the MCU keeps on bringing the audience back to cinemas, it has been often criticized for its formulaic approach and being a detriment to other original movies. But the thing that affected Hemsworth the most was the criticism from some of his favorites in the industry, including Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. Even though the two of the most influential filmmakers of our time did provide fair arguments against MCU’s influence in the industry, hearing his heroes not being a fan of his work was super depressing for the actor. He explained,
“That’s super depressing when I hear that. There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me. I’m thankful that I have been a part of something that kept people in cinemas… whether or not those films were to the detriment of other films, I don’t know.”
Although amid his mid-life crisis, Hemsworth is set to return for several flicks in the upcoming time, his future as Thor in the MCU remains uncertain after Thor: Love and Thunder failed to deliver.
