Greta Gerwig’s incredible Barbie tale begins with death! When Barbie starts having all these intrusive thoughts of dying and what next, things in Barbie Land start going downhill, and the Barbie world fantasy is shattered when she encounters the real world. It all comes crashing down when she abruptly asks all the other wonderful Barbies and Kens in the middle of a dance party, making everyone almost have a heart attack,

“Do you guys ever think about dying?”

And thus begins the entire quest of the iconic character to put an end to her existential crisis. So it wasn’t surprising when Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were asked, during one of their many interviews, whether they thought about life and death. And Robbie replied,

“I actually didn’t that much until doing this movie, and then suddenly we’re having all these conversations about death and life, makes your head spin.”
Well, it does make your head spin when Barbie starts to discover the truth about life and the real world, reminding everyone of their complex journeys to the ‘real world’.

Margot Robbie Had A Hard Time Saying Rollerblades

As fun, as it looked on the set, there were certain moments apart from the crucial death and love discussions that were really hard for the Barbie stars. In an interview, they revealed they were struggling to deliver their lines perfectly since Greta Gerwig was very focused on the dialogue rhythm and pace. Margot Robbie, who plays the glamorous toy character had a particularly hard time saying rollerblades in an American accent.

Apart from dialogue delivery, Barbie and Ken’s introduction to the human world was an alarming experience, also because it was a while for the Barbie cast as well to come into the real world. Despite the challenges the film hits home as it reminds us what it means to be a real human and experience real life through a pink-coated odyssey.
