Black Widow is one of the biggest fan-favorite characters from all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that’s a fact. Spectacularly portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in the MCU media franchise, the spy cum deadly assassin wreaked havoc on the big screen for more than 9 years before Johansson had to bid her farewell in Avengers: Endgame.
However, even then, the actress got the chance to properly bid farewell to Natasha Romanoff in her solo 2021 movie, Black Widow. And the alternate ending shot for the film would have given her just the heartfelt goodbye she needed from the MCU had the studios not decided against it last minute and went forward with the ending that fans have seen and come to acknowledge in the movie.

Black Widow‘s Alternate Scrapped Ending Is Better Than Its Original One
In the original ending that was finalized and seen in Scarlett Johansson’s 2021 action/thriller, Florence Pugh‘s Yelena Belova was seen visiting her sister’s grave in a deeply emotional moment before being confronted by Valentina for yet another mission. However, the alternate ending that was scrapped and never gone forward with showed something different.
As shared by Screen Culture, this deleted alternate ending showed Natasha Romanoff revisiting her Ohio home neighborhood where she grew up. There, she comes across a bunch of kids pretending to be ‘Avengers’ while playing around, with one of them even pretending to be the superhero she is, i.e. Black Widow.
While this ending looks as peaceful and beautiful as the one originally opted for, this one holds a deeper meaning for Nat, with her neighborhood representing the humanity she had been doubting for so long of having, the kids representing her other family, i.e. the Avengers, and the girl playing her character representing the legendary legacy of a person who is more than just a “trained killer”.
When looking at it this way, it all serves as a much, much better farewell to Scarlett Johansson‘s massively fan-favorite character. Not only does it perfectly match the post-credit sequence of the movie in an even better sense, but it also gives her “a stronger emotional ending realizing she has done well for the world”, as Screen Culture said it.

Fans Believe This End Would’ve Been The Perfect Farewell To Black Widow
Commenting on the clip of the deleted scene from Black Widow posted on YouTube by Screen Culture, fans are sharing just how emotional and happier this end scene made them feel. While mentioning how “she will be remembered” always as “a hero to people” even though no proper funeral was held for her, here’s what some of them have to say:
“This totally pays off this line from the movie: “I’m not the killer that little girls call their hero.” It should have been the actual ending.” ~ @Trikeboy2
“Man, this should have been the real, real ending for the movie as it has so much emotion to it and is a perfect goodbye for Black Widow!” ~ @saikathghosh8733
“This is better because it shows that her legacy will live on and not be forgotten.” ~ @BSProductions1
“I’m absolutely FURIOUS they didn’t go with this ending. I think this was the perfect way to say goodbye to a much-beloved character, and for her to say goodbye as well. This is a crime.” ~ @tea_n_5467
“Oh my god. I love this so much more than the official ending. This made me emotional.” ~ @TheFiddleFaddle
Considering all these fan reactions as well as the effect this scrapped alternate ending had on everyone, this ending could have undoubtedly served as the perfect boost that Natasha Romanoff’s 2021 solo movie needed to have an edge over everyone else. But to each his own.
