It’s already been seven years since Two and a Half Men concluded with 262 episodes. After Charlie Sheen’s drama on Two and a Half Men, his fellow co-star Jon Cryer distanced himself from the sitcom to avoid the controversies. Still, the actor revealed that he still has fond memories of working with Sheen.
Cryer claimed he has no communication with Sheen due to his fallout with Chuck Lorre, the show’s creator. Even the show’s star was uncertain about its revival, which eventually happened with Ashton Kutcher replacing Sheen.
Jon Cryer Distanced Himself From Two and a Half Men After His Co-Star’s Drama
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jon Cryer reflected on the drama that nearly ended the mega-hit sitcom Two and a Half Men in bitter terms. He said, “In the early years, the life with Charlie Sheen was great.” But then Cryer noticed that “things were getting stranger for him [Sheen]” in later years. The actor added:
“He started to have issues with the writing and sometimes issues with the writing that I didn’t understand. I would say, ‘This is the kind of joke you had no problem with a year and a half ago, and suddenly now it’s an issue?’ So, you know, it was very subtle. It took a while before it started really going off the rails.”
Charlie Sheen‘s behavior became more erratic. It led to a series of problematic statements and an unexpected feud with Chuck Lorre. So, Cryer decided to end the show because of that with the show’s creator.
Jon Cryer Discussed Ending Two and a Half Men With the Show’s Creator
When the CBS show was in turmoil due to Charlie Sheen’s behavior, Jon Cryer had discussions with Chuck Lorre to end the show together. He said in the same interview with ET:
“I think there was a moment where Chuck Lorre and I were looking at each other and we said, ‘It’s not worth this show going on if going on enables Charlie Sheen to kill himself. If giving him enough money to do whatever the thing is that ends his life, you know, we don’t want to be a part of that. ‘And I think, actually, when Charlie was let go from the show, the first thought amongst most of us was, ‘OK, we’re done. This has been a great thing, but we’re done at this point.'”
But Lorre had different plans for the show’s future. So, he decided to kill off his character and introduced Ashton Kutcher to the cast. Cryer revealed that he keeps contact with Kutcher but not with Sheen.
