Although it is sad to see him go away from such an iconic franchise playing such an iconic role, his legacy and memory of the character will go on for the foreseeable future. When talking about him playing the monster hunter in the series, the first thing that might come to mind is his most visceral scene, something that he too remembers very well, although, not for the reasons you may think.

When asked about what his favorite role has been in his career so far, it may not be so astonishing to hear Henry Cavill claim that to be Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series. Since pop and geek culture had such a big influence on his life and had been growing up, he was more than thrilled to play the character in the stories adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. What made one of the scenes memorable for him was when he shot his goopiest scene, and not because of all the muck he was covered in, but because of an accident that happened with his pet dog on set.

In the past during 2021’s WitcherCon Event, the Mission: Impossible star was talking about everything Witcher, including how he got into the lore from the books and what influenced him to get into them. Here, he also recalled the incident where he was on set that day with his pet American Akita named Kal, who had somehow escaped his trailer in order to run to the set. Here, he wanted to climb down the stairs, where, unfortunately, he got his paw stuck in a hole in the step of the trailer, causing a serious injury, which naturally shook the star hard. He said:

“This day, Kal had run out of my trailer, And there [were] these metal stairs outside the trailer.” The stairs were apparently designed with holes in the steps to prevent rainfall from gathering on them, but instead of preventing a slipping hazard, they ended up injuring Kal. Kal got one of his claws stuck in it as he jumped off and all I heard him do is yelp, And I thought, ‘Oh, he’s landed badly on his shoulder or something.’ It turns out the injury was much worse as the poor creature had actually ripped his claw all the way off apart from a little bit.”

Thankfully, they were able to get Kal safely to a vet, and the procedure went smoothly, resulting in his and Cavill’s full recovery.
