Netflix’s One Piece Live Action was released almost four months ago, yet the craze never ends. It is not every day that fans get to experience a live anime adaptation on such a large scale and that it is successful. One Piece Live Action has broken the shackles that were pinning down this particular genre and has paved a path for others to follow.
But making it was not easy. Eiichiro Oda’s presence in the team helped control many factors since he personally selected the actor, and no scene was finalized without his opinion. Even though he played a huge role, the anime has a vast world, and One Piece‘s editor revealed that bringing that vastness onto the screen was a challenge in itself.
Eric Litman On The Challenges Of Eiichiro Oda’s Magnum Opus
One Piece has only grown in its audience after its release. However, bringing down the East Blue saga in one season was challenging. As a result, they had to take up the most important part to let the audience know what was happening. That obviously proved to be a challenge for the editor. In an interview hosted by What’s on Netflix, Eric Litman revealed the challenge he had to face on the One Piece sets.
He said,
“One Piece is a lot of genres put together. There’s steampunk, there’s pirates, there’s modern technology, old technology, different technology. So it was a challenge to really explain where we are and how we get into that world. For example, you have to know who Gold Roger is because if you don’t, then the whole concept of the show might not work.”
Considering that Eric Litman has worked with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for seven years, it goes to prove that he is well-versed in something that is adapted from comic books. Eiichiro Oda is a creative person, and One Piece is his baby. He carefully built the world for 24 years and has included every minute detail from the real world. So, it would be difficult for the editors to bring out such a huge world even if they are well-versed in this genre. But they overcame all the challenges and made the series a global success.
