“It was a straight offer”: Timothee Chalamet Used Tom Holland’s Tactic to Land Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka Role That Was Offered to Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller

Timothee Chalamet is raising the bar quite high with his spectacular performances that you cannot miss. He has already impressed the fans with Call Me by Your Name and is ready to return as Paul Atreides in the upcoming Dune 2. Not just that, he is ready to show his quirky side to play the role of a fictional character in Wonka.

Given that the role has already been nailed by Johnny Depp, it would be a real challenge for Chalamet to bring everyone’s attention on his own. But it surely wouldn’t be much difficult since he was cast in the film without an audition, which tells how great he would be with his character.

Timothee Chalamet is one of the rising stars in Hollywood due to his intense acting. He is set to play the Willy Wonka role in Paul King’s directed film, Wonka. Speaking with Rolling Stone, the director mentioned how he eventually chose the former for the titular role despite Warner Bros searching for big names for the project.

Initially, the studio was trying its best to get Donald Glover, Ezra Miller, and Ryan Gosling on board for the titular role. But, Chalamet’s clever tactic which was quite similar to MCU star, Tom Holland helped him to make this role his.

Speaking of this role, he deemed him fit for it.

“It was a straight offer because he’s great and he was the only person in my mind who could do it.”

He continued how the former’s high school musical performances led him to this project. Due to his amazing skills which were widely present on Youtube, he didn’t even have to audition.

“But because he’s Timothée Chalamet and his life is so absurd, his high school musical performances are on YouTube and have hundreds of thousands of views. So I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well.”

King mentioned that the former was quite interested in the film and was ready to show his skills to the world.

“I knew that was in his arsenal, but I didn’t know how good he was. When I spoke to him he was quite keen. He’d done tap dancing in high school and he was like, ‘I’d quite like to show people I can do that.’”

His musical performances brought him closer to this project which is quite similar to Holland’s tactic which won Marvel’s heart.

Holland is globally recognized for his Spider-Man role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, many might be surprised to know that the actor’s gymnastics skills helped him land the web-slinger role. The actor once revealed in an interview with Good Morning America that he sent several videos of him doing backflips and whatnot for Spider-Man audition just to let the studio know that he is well fit for action sequences.

Not just that, he even did a backflip when he was auditioning for his part with Chris Evans when the duo was reading a fighting scene. He absolutely impressed everyone with his flexibility which became one of the factors in his getting closer to the role.

After 8 auditions, he eventually got the role. From making his superhero debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, he continues to play the role with last appearing in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Wonka is scheduled to be released on December 15, 2023.
