Loki’s production designer and director Kasra Farahani commented on Jonathan Majors’ highly publicized arrest for the first time. Majors returned to play Kang the Conqueror in Loki Season 2 amidst ongoing controversy surrounding him, which began earlier in 2023.
The MCU star was arrested on assault charges in March 2023. He’s currently awaiting for the trial’s outcome.
Even though the actor’s entertainment industry future looks uncertain recently, the Loki Season 2 director praised him for his portrayal in the series. He also found it surprising to know about Majors’ assault allegations.
Loki Director Surprised by Jonathan Majors’ Assault Allegations
Kasra Farahani (who directed the latest episode of Loki and worked as the production designer for both seasons) addressed the discomfort surrounding Jonathan Majors‘ arrest after his MCU return while speaking with Variety.
When asked about the news, he found it surprising, but described working with Majors as “such a great experience.” The director feels “fortunate” to work with “such high-caliber actors” like Majors:
“It was a surprise for sure. But I don’t know anything about it, other than to say that we had, honestly, such a great experience on the set. The cast was a wonderful ensemble. They all worked together super well. Tom would have an idea, Jonathan would have ideas, Owen is an idea machine. The experience on set was without any drama, and just a joy. For me, especially as my first big directing opportunity, I count myself so fortunate to be working with such high-caliber actors that made the directing that much easier for me.”
The Loki director also talked about Majors’ role as Victor Timely. He described him as a “brilliant guy who’s operating like an Einstein-type figure” who highlighted the character’s social awkwardness.
The Loki Director Discussed Jonathan Majors’ Role as Victor Timely
The Loki team aimed to give Majors a “kind of conman quality,” — considering he was a “Black man in the late 19th Century in America.” Farahani explained how Timely used his mind and wit to make his way in that era.
He revealed Black inventor Granville Woods from the late 1800s as a particular inspiration for the character of Victor Timely. Woods (known for his inventions), often had “his patents challenged by other prominent inventors.”
This served as a source of inspiration for Timely’s character in the series. The show’s team aimed to incorporate some of Woods’s challenges into Timely’s character arc.
