“It was either that or jump out the window”: Ben Affleck Reveals Joss Whedon Made Him Feel Suicidal While Filming $658M Justice League, Relapsed Back into Alcoholism

Ben Affleck will be returning as Batman in the upcoming The Flash one last time. His career as the Caped Crusader is no longer going forward and it is not just a need via the DC Universe but also a choice by the actor himself. His role as the character has been commended ever since he first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although the journey has come to an end, Affleck is glad to be moving forward.

He even confirmed that a lot of his issues with the character and his involvement were because of Joss Whedon. Despite moving forward with Matt Damon and his own production company, his ties with Batman had been difficult to get rid of initially.

Ben Affleck Was Pushed To Alcoholism Again Because Of Batman

Ben Affleck revealed that his work as Batman had been conflicting, to say the least. While Zack Snyder’s Justice League was accurately able to bring out Bruce Wayne the way the actor had wanted, Justice League was far from it.

“It broke my heart. There was an idea of someone [Joss Whedon] coming in, like, ‘I’ll rescue you and we’ll do 60 days of shooting and I’ll write a whole thing around what you have. I’ve got the secret.’ And it wasn’t the secret. That was hard. And I started to drink too much. I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, “This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable.'”

It pushed him to the brink of death and alcohol became a solace for him. Whedon’s idea had been so corroding for him that everything was blurry and he did not want to be a part of Batman at all. Throughout his entire experience in Hollywood, working on the movie had been the worst one yet.

Ben Affleck Does Not Want To Return As Batman Or Even Direct For The DCU

Ben Affleck has confirmed that he will no longer be part of the DCU as a director as he does not like the direction that the franchise is going in.

“I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.”

He says that Gunn’s idea is not what matches with his version of Batman and he has no interest in directing a movie for the same.

The Flash will be available to watch in theatres from 16th June 2023.
