Endings Before Beginnings

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Luke Grimes revealed some interesting information about Yellowstone. On top of playing Travis Wheatley, Taylor Sheridan also plays the roles of creator and executive producer. He has quite a lot of control over where the story takes all of the characters.

During the interview, Grimes revealed that Sheridan has Kayce’s end planned. In fact, the actor had planned the endings of all of the characters from the very beginning. It would seem that Sheridan is someone who likes to think far into the future, as he planned out the ending of the series long before he decided how the show was going to end.

He knows how it ends for Kayce, and he’s known since he wrote the beginning. He actually said that he knew the end first,

It is safe to say this sort of thinking is unique however, it is not surprising considering just how well-written Yellowstone is.

Luke Grimes Likes Not Knowing Kayce’s Ending

Luke Grimes then went on to talk about his own character’s ending. He revealed that he loves the mystery that comes with working on a series like Yellowstone. He likes not knowing the fate of the role that he is actively playing, and he even added that he would want the curtain to be lifted at the very last moment when he received the final script.

I’ve actually really gotten into the idea of never knowing how this ends until I get to read that last script. Going through the journey’d be a great payoff as an actor.

Despite this, Taylor Sheridan had to tell a small percentage of Kayce’s fate to Grimes so that he could get the actor’s opinion on it.

But Taylor and I sat down and he told me just enough about what those two paths looked like and just enough about that statement. It wasn’t enough that I know what’s going to happen or where he goes from here, but it was enough that I could say that line and have an idea of what I was talking about.

While it took some of the mystery out for Grimes, he added that it was just enough for him to understand the path that Kayce will be going down by the end of the fifth season. The rest is still unknown to him, and he would not have it any other way.

Although this may have been the case for Grimes, it may not be far-fetched to believe that the rest of the cast also knows the fate of their characters to a certain degree.
