John Cena and Dwayne Johnson’s rivalry has spun for years, even outside of the WWE ring. Both professional wrestlers turned actors, they had their fair share of successful and bombed movie projects. Following The Rock’s return to WWE’s Monday Night Raw, Cena took a trip down memory lane and remembered the time he exposed Johnson’s secret.
It’s no surprise when wrestlers taunt each other inside the ring; it’s part of the entertainment, and the crowd loves a good drama. However, the 16-time world champion seemingly regrets a move he pulled on The Rock in the past.
John Cena Admits He’s A Hypocrite For Calling Out Dwayne Johnson
During his appearance via Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, actor John Cena responded to the host’s question: “You saw The Rock’s return. He said, ‘Do you think I should sit at the head of the table?’ Do you think he had that line written on his wrist?”
He was referring to the time Cena exposed Dwayne Johnson’s secret live on television. He quipped, “Just like I don’t need my notes for my promo on my wrist.” The Rock was clearly pissed off, and this seems like a decision the 46-year-old wrestler regrets.
“One thing I know about Dwayne, he never makes the same mistake twice. Looking back at it, it was f—king stupid. I spent years calling out The Rock saying, ‘Man, if you love the business, you should be back.’ What a f—king hypocrite I am.”
For years, Cena has been criticizing Johnson for leaving the wrestling profession to focus on his career as an actor. The latter has been very successful in the movie business, with his blockbuster films making millions of dollars at the box office. Some of his top-grossing franchises include Fast & Furious, Jumanji, and Disney’s Moana.
“A professional would have been like, ‘Hey, if you do go out there like that I’m going to use it.’ There’s more than one way to solve a creative puzzle.”
Cena has also found his niche in the entertainment world. Some of his notable films include Bumblebee, The Suicide Squad, and a surprise cameo in Barbie. Last year, the two famed icons were spotted together backstage, which seemingly proved they had settled and put the past behind them.
John Cena Laments Unnecessary Feud With Dwayne Johnson
Speaking via the Happy Sad Confused webcast, John Cena talked about his rivalry with The Rock that occurred between 2012 and 2013. He admitted he should have sorted out the issue in private, but he chose to go all out in public.
“I got selfish and me — living WWE at the point and not having any concept of growth or someone else’s perspective — I took Dwayne’s comments [about the business] as not genuine. My view was if you love something, be there every day. Like, what a hypocrite I am, because I still love WWE, and I can’t go all the time. And I just didn’t see that. I was so selfish.”
At the time, he did not understand why Johnson wanted to venture into another form of art, and he slammed the Rampage actor for choosing to star in movies instead of brawling inside the ring. They eventually came to an understanding and have since become good friends.
