Taylor Sheridan has made a name for himself with his incredible gift of writing and creating some of the best TV shows and movies of all time. But before he shocked the world with his writing capabilities, he was just another actor in Hollywood, struggling to get worthwhile roles. His first significant role came in the form of Deputy David Hale in FX’s Sons of Anarchy, starring the likes of Charlie Hunnam.

Having appeared in 21 episodes over the first three seasons of the show, the actor’s character was shockingly killed off in a surprising motor accident. Sheridan later told Deadline, he had left the show because he was being grossly underpaid and underappreciated.

The guy goes, ‘I know and you’re right that he probably deserves to make more, but we’re not going to pay him more because guess what, he’s not worth more. That’s what he’s worth. There’s 50 of him. He is 11 on the call sheet. That’s what that guy is, and that’s all he’s ever going to be.’

Not wanting to be ‘Number 11’ on the call sheet any longer, Sheridan promptly quit the show and decided to start writing. Eventually, Sheridan sound scripts for Sicario, Hell or High Water, and more, before finally distinguishing himself from the rest with Yellowstone.

In the episode, titled Going Back to Cali, a biker gang from California (where Sons of Anarchy is also based), shows up on the Dutton Ranch. After a contention, Rip Wheeler shows up and smashes all the bikes of the gang. Wanting to exact revenge, the biker gang shows up on the ranch again at night to burn down the ranch.

However, as Wheeler had told them earlier, that he would bury them where they stand, the gang is forced to dig up their own graves by Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. Close to being killed, Dutton eventually lets them go on the promise that they will never set foot in Montana ever again. Although Sheridan has yet to remark on the situation, fans are convinced that the scene is definitely a subtle dig by the Yellowstone creator at his Sons of Anarchy exit.
