Christian Bale is one of the biggest names in Hollywood and rightfully so. He has starred in some of the biggest, most well-known, and critically acclaimed projects over the course of his lengthy career. From playing the role of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho to playing the role of Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, and even being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gorr. It is well known that he has worn the faces of many iconic characters. Though these certainly helped establish his worldwide fame, the actor has been a part of the industry for much longer than this.
Being a child actor who starred in all kinds of cinema from a young age, it can easily be said that Bale is well in the ins and outs of the film industry. During an interview, it was revealed by the actor that one of his first projects, and the one that was first to receive great attention from the media, caused immense pain. The cause and reason for the pain are even more interesting, as the actor explained that when he was that young, he was unable to deal with the pressure that came with being a star.

Christian Bale’s Years As A Child Actor Weren’t Always Bright
It is a fact well known in the film industry that child actors don’t have the greatest time on the sets of the projects they work on. Be it during the filming process, which is stacking for anyone, especially young children, or routine and schedules that come after a film has finished its production, Hollywood is no place for kids. The one thing that has followed a majority of young actors into their adulthood is the effects of the trauma and pain that they faced, working in an industry as harsh and unsafe as this. Unfortunately, it would seem that Christian Bale is one such actor.
He started acting around the age of 12, getting his big break in the 1987 film, Empire of the Sun at the age of only 13 years old. This particular gained quite a lot of traction for many reasons, including its cast and its director, who is Steven Spielberg. Working on a film that has this much media attention is hard for anyone of any age, however, this is even more the case for younger actors, who have not experienced the harshness and invasiveness of media and cinema. After wrapping up this movie, Bale very quickly became yet another victim of Hollywood.

Christian Bale Hated Interviews
During an interview, according to IMDb, Christian Bale talked about what it was like for him to deal with the media attention that came with Empire of the Sun’s success at the mere age of 13. Having barely become a teenager, the extensive interviews, press conferences, and questions that he was bombarded with were something the young actor found extremely difficult to deal with.
“It was horrific. I was almost crying in interviews and running away during press conferences, pretending I was going to the bathroom and just disappearing.”
He explained that he was horrified at the entire experience. This was so serious that the actor would have to excuse himself in the middle of interviews to stop himself from crying on camera. He explained that he would pretend that he was in the washroom, using that as an excuse to completely disappear from the entire situation.
