Chris Columbus Labels Robin Williams’ Performance in Mrs. Doubtfire as ‘Divine Inspiration’

The late Hollywood legend, Robin Williams delivered a memorable performance in almost every movie he acted in. Speaking of Mrs. Doubtfire, Williams evidently improvised a lot to make the film extremely hilarious.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, director Chris Columbus shared his views on Robin Williams’ performance in his 1993 comedy-drama.

He was in his prime at that point in his life and it was like divine inspiration.

In the movie, Williams played the role of Daniel Hillard, who is going through a bitter divorce. After losing the custody of his children to his ex-wife, Hillard decides to disguise himself as a female housekeeper.

In the same interview with Business Insider, Columbus revealed the fact that there are roughly 972 boxes of containing footage of Williams’ elite improv skills, which could be used to create a memorable documentary. However, Disney is yet to release the boxes and green lit a potential documentary.

There are roughly 972 boxes of footage from “Doubtfire” — footage we used in the movie, outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage — in a warehouse somewhere and we would like to hire an editor to go in and look at all of that footage. We want to show Robin’s process. There is something special and magical about how he went about his work and I think it would be fun to delve into it.

It’s certainly ironic that one of the greatest comedy actors of all time committed suicide at the age of 64. Williams will forever remain a national treasure and his epic movies will be passed on to generations to come.
