Cillian Murphy’s Failed Musician Career

Today Murphy is surely one of the most commendable actors in the industry, but this Golden Globe Award winner didn’t begin his career as an actor, he chose to become a musician in the early days of his career. The Inception star shared that he used to play in a band during his teens. Their band was even going to sign with a renowned label but sadly that never worked out, resulting in the killing of his dreams to become a musician.

“I played in bands in my teens and then when I was about 18 or 19, we were offered a deal and it didn’t work out. So that was the end of the dream. It’s a treacherous industry, isn’t it? All the lads that I was in the band with, we’re [still] such good friends now, and I don’t know if that would have actually stayed the case if we’d have been put through the jaws of the music industry as youngsters. I didn’t think it would work but then something happened where it just clicked and we always – you know the people that made the show – we always talked about whether a tune is ‘Peaky’ or ‘not Peaky’.”

Cillian Murphy On Refusing To Be A Part Of Musician’s Biopic

After being familiarized with Murphy’s aspirations of a music career, one may assume to see the Peaky Blinders star in a film with musical elements. But to their surprise, Cillian Murphy has no interest in working in that sort of movie. The Sunshine star confessed that music is his first love and he did his very best to become successful in it. But as things didn’t fold the way he wanted, the Breakfast on Pluto star has decided to never release his music and even refused several offers to be a part of a musician’s biopic.

“I almost want to protect my relationship with it. It was my first love, and I worked really hard at trying to be a musician and it didn’t work out. But I’ve turned down quite a few biopic roles of musicians. I’d much prefer to watch a three-hour Scorsese doc about George Harrison than play George Harrison in a bad wig. It wasn’t George Harrison I was asked to play, by the way. I will never release any music of my own, never, ever. I want to do one thing well. And I guess because I’m still a little sore about being a failed musician.”

Though it is surely an unquestioned fact that Murphy is a great actor, it looks like he has still not been able to get over his unsuccessful career as a musician. His internal wish to become a musician is still holding him back to accept some great film offers and exploit his passion for music.
