After disappearing from the limelight for nearly a year, Elden Ring is back and ready to become 2024’s biggest game with its upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. While there’s no denying that the game deserves its position as one of the greatest in recent times, it isn’t a piece of art without its fair share of flaws.

Surprisingly enough, Hidetaka Miyazaki himself admits that many concepts could’ve been better implemented in the game rather than simply rehashing them from his previous works, the biggest among them being co-op.

Hidetaka Miyazaki May Implement Seamless Co-op in His Future Games

The mere prospect of seamless co-op in Elden Ring is both chilling and exhilarating.

Anyone who has played a From Software game long enough knows these folks like to have a peculiar form of co-op and PVP in their titles. However, not counting the multiplayer-but-solo method of using Spirit Ashes, the previous method of dropping in and out for every boss and area works less favorably for a game as massive as Elden Ring.

Many players have noticed the issue as well, as not long after Elden Ring came out, modders quickly developed seamless cooperative play for the game, perhaps wishing to play with their pals in one smooth session at a time.

Here’s the fun part, though – in a recent talk with PC Gamer, Miyazaki admitted to the issues surrounding the vanilla co-op in the game, further stating how he’d love to experiment with seamless co-op in his future works.

From the conversation, it’s clear that Miyazaki envisioned a more focused experience for the game’s co-op side, in which players would take on a specific challenge with their friends or strangers and then move on to the next adventure by themselves.

While the existing co-op is undoubtedly functional and serves its primary purpose well, it is incomparable to journeying through The Lands Between with someone without any summoning process, which breaks the immersion time and again. Keeping that in mind, we may see this implemented into the game and its expansion sometime in the future.

Will We See Seamless Co-op Introduced in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree?

The mod will surely be updated to support the expansion, but players want to see the real deal in Elden Ring.

At the moment, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. From more fleshed-out side-stories to massive gameplay changes being implemented, it is surprising that the expansion remains shrouded in mystery despite being mere days away from its release.

Even if players couldn’t adventure through The Lands Between together all that seamlessly, they are already eager to do so in The Land of Shadows. Unfortunately, it’s clear that Shadow of the Erdtree will not feature seamless co-op just yet, as the concept would otherwise have been revealed by From Software or Namco Bandai.

However, given what Hidetaka Miyazaki thinks about the feature and wants to try it out in the future, perhaps we may see it as a post-launch add-on as a way to celebrate what will surely be a successful release.

With that said, what are your thoughts on seamless co-op? Would you like to officially see it in Elden Ring? Let us know in the comments below!
