“It was the weirdest fitting I’ve ever had in my life”: Hugh Jackman Says His Neck Testicles Were Way Worse Than Ryan Reynolds’ Embarrassing Deadpool Prosthetic

If Hugh Jackman could go back into the past and warn his younger self against doing this film, he would.

SUMMARY

  • Ryan Reynolds debuted as Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the on-screen version of Wade Wilson was unlike anything that comic book fans had ever seen.
  • As mortifying as Reynolds' getup might have been, however, it was nothing compared to Hugh Jackman's prosthetic in Movie 43.
  • Jackman admitted that he regretted doing the 2013 comedy film wherein he was made to wear neck testicles.

Remember X-Men Origins: Wolverine? No? Corny visual effects, shoddy pacing, simply bad editing, and a Homelander version of Deadpool (Wade Wilson had laser beam eyes in the film) with retractable swords for arms. Remember it now? Well, if you thought Ryan Reynolds’ bizarre superhero prosthetic was embarrassing, think again.

Hugh Jackman has seen worse days with a pair of testicles hanging off his neck. Yup, you read that right.

Hugh Jackman Beats Ryan Reynolds Thanks to His Mortifying Prosthetic

Directed by Gavin Hood, X-Men Origins: Wolverine may have laid out an intricately woven backstory of Hugh Jackman‘s broody mutant, but that’s perhaps the only redeeming quality of the otherwise much-pilloried movie. And as if the public outcry wasn’t bad enough already, they made Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool debut unimaginably nightmarish and dramatically different from the comics.

As hilarious (and humiliating too) as Reynolds may have looked as the Merc with a Mouth covered in inexplicable tattoos with his sword hands, his prosthetic wasn’t nearly as mortifying as Jackman’s was in Movie 43.

During their recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars were talking about “the most embarrassing prosthetic” an actor had donned in a film, and the Logan star definitely takes the cake for this one.

“The Magic Mic of Chernobyl,” Reynolds, 47 joked about his perplexing superhero getup in the X-Men film. “That was just about the most embarrassing prosthetic an actor has ever worn in a movie.” “No, no, no, no,” Jackman protested. “Actually, that’s not true. The most embarrassing prosthetic an actor has ever worn in a movie -“ cue a pair of testicles dangling from the Australian actor’s neck.

It was the weirdest fitting I’ve ever had in my life, in my kitchen at home. Anyway…the kids, still have not recovered.

And just as Jackman advised people against looking up his “infinity stones,” as he so nicely put it, you can see a curious Gosling already tapping on his phone before the former shoots him a glare. “Just checking the stocks,” the Free Guy star said. “Wow,” Jackman shook his head in disbelief (but we all know he couldn’t wait to laugh).

Hugh Jackman Regrets Doing Films Like Movie 43

Yeah well, there’s only so much good that’d come out of testicles hanging from your chin (pun absolutely NOT intended).

Much like innumerable Hollywood stars, Jackman, 55, too has his fair share of regrets within the industry, and the Charles Wessler-produced comedy sits high (perhaps the highest, even) on his list. Don’t be fooled by the star-studded cast of Movie 43 because, at the end of the day, it was both a critical and box-office bomb.

In a conversation with Yahoo!, the Les Misérables star advised actors to steer clear of projects like Movie 43, which for him turned out to be a recipe for disaster. “When they come to you with an idea of putting testicles around your neck, and being part of this hilarious ensemble of some of the funniest movies of all time, don’t believe them,” Jackman said.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be out in cinemas on July 26, 2024.
