The Witcher Showrunner Had the Choice to End the Show Following Henry Cavill’s Departure

Speaking to Total Film Magazine, as reported by Redanian Intelligence, Lauren Hissrich briefly explained Henry Cavill‘s departure and how the show might have dealt with it.

It was time for him in his life to move on. I think we’ve all been mourning this in our own way. We had the choice to have Geralt exit and to end the show. [But] that’s not something that we were willing to do. There’s just too many stories left to tell.”

Hissrich and the production team decided recasting Geralt was the best step going forward.

If we replaced Geralt with another Witcher, we would be going fully away from the books and I don’t think that’s what anyone wanted either,” she explained.

Why Did Henry Cavill Leave the Netflix Series The Witcher

Netflix’s The Witcher is one of the most renowned series. The show, which featured Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, was immensely loved by the fans of the actor and the series. Back in October 2022, the actor announced his decision to leave the show, saying in a statement,

My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4.”

A statement from Lauren Hissrich has brought into the discussion that the actor was frustrated with not having many dialogues in the series.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunner shared that Cavill wanted to open up his character for the audience and wanted more dialogues for his character. “A lot of the notes he was sending to me were about Geralt’s dialogue — could he, first of all, say more,” Hissrich said.
