How Did Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach Meet?

Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s paths crossed during the production of Baumbach’s movie Greenberg in 2010, where Gerwig starred alongside Ben Stiller. Notably, Baumbach was then married to actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. However, following Baumbach’s separation from Leigh Gerwig and Baumbach got together but only for a brief amount of time. That was during the writing process of Frances Ha. Regarding the breakup, Grewig once revealed to The Guardian,

“There was a time when it was too much, And then, I don’t know. We were in love, so… But now it’s been a year and a half. Working together isn’t hard. It’s very easy.”

Since their relationship began in 2011, they have continued their creative partnership in the films Frances Ha and Mistress America, co-writing both movies. Their most recent joint venture is the 2022 adaptation of White Noise.

In a Director’s Roundtable hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, Baumbach shared the extent of Gerwig’s involvement in his projects. He revealed,

“It’s beyond advice it’s like the roots. She’s in there from the very beginning,–Greta has lines in all my movies that are actually hers — I mean maybe things she said in life but also things she wrote that I say, ‘Can I use that?’ “

So naturally, it’s thrilling to learn that after dating for 12 years, the couple finally decided to tie the knot. According to People, they got married at New York City Hall.
