The role of Anamaria in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl massively contributed to making actress Zoe Saldana a well-known name in the industry. Since it was one of her first major film roles, Saldana instantly agreed to it, without thinking about the hardships that came with the role.

Filming the movie was not a good experience for the actress, in fact, it was so bad that Saldana swore to never do anything like that again. Even after 20 years, the actress regrets appearing in the movie and is glad that she was never invited again.

“It was just so big, it was too big of a machine for me and it was too out of control. So, what I see that transpired on screen, I’m very proud of – how difficult it was to get there I don’t ever want to go.”

Even in the past, Saldana has stated that the management of the sets was horrible. While the opportunity was big, it massively drained her physically and mentally, so she decided to never do something like that again.

Further in the interview, Saldana explained that she was never invited to appear in the franchise again, explaining that they probably went in a different direction,

“I was only asked to be a part of one and then that was it. Maybe they chose to go in a different direction if that was certainly the goal in the beginning, it didn’t transpire by the end of the production and I’m happy it didn’t. There was just a lot of politics that you would have had to navigate and I just felt really lost and very small in that big machine but I’m happy for all the actors that benefited from this.”

The role certainly put the spotlight on Saldana and gave her more opportunities, which further helped her establish herself as a successful actress.

“I think he [Jerry Bruckheimer] read some somewhere where I had expressed my discomfort and my disappointment and years later, he apologized, which felt really quite honorable but from that experience, I was like I’m never gonna do this again I’m just going to stay in New York.”

The major shift in Saldana’s career came in the late 2000s as she showcased her talent in various movies. Her contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has now made her a worldwide superstar.
