Marvel Studios has been through different levels of success and has also witnessed rock bottom through decades. But when the writers’ strike hit, the Studios faced a massive shift in powerplay and politics, like never before. And this change was felt immensely in Emilia Clarke’s Secret Invasion.
The thriller series led by Samuel L. Jackson and Emilia Clarke turned into Marvel’s worst-reviewed show. But what seemed far more atrocious was Marvel Studios’ internal politics that quietly led a good portion of its team to be replaced during the production and pre-production of Secret Invasion.
Marvel Studios Let Go Of Its Sufficiently Trained Staff
Not just the writers’ strike but even Marvel Studios’ internal politics badly affected a few recently released projects. Currently, Daredevil: Born Again hitting the reset button allowed The Hollywood Reporter to learn a bit about this ongoing politics. And it has been revealed how the Studios allegedly quietly fired a significant number of writers and directors from the show.
But surprisingly, Daredevil: Born Again isn’t the only show that is undergoing drastic behind-the-scenes changes, due to change in staff. Apparently, Oscar Isaac starrer Moon Knight, faced the same issue when creator and writer Jeremy Slater quit, forcing director Mohamed Diab to take the reins. Thus, the outlet believes Marvel has been doing this for quite a while.
It all started during the pandemic when Marvel Studios stepped outside its usual staffing approach and brought in outside execs. They simply let go of staff who were sufficiently trained in the Marvel method and hired people from outside. And certainly, one show that severely faced this change was Emilia Clarke‘s worst-rated MCU series, Secret Invasion.
Emilia Clarke’s Secret Invasion Lost Majority Of Its Team
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is believed that Emilia Clarke and Samuel L. Jackson-led thriller, Secret Invasion, became one of the worst-reviewed series because Marvel Studios fired a good portion of its team. As per the reports gathered by the outlet, writers and directors for the show were readily changed during pre-production.
Kyle Bradstreet, who had been working on the scripts for Secret Invasion for a year was fired suddenly after Marvel decided on a different direction for the show. Thereafter, Marvel Studios hired Brian Tucker as the new writer, along with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim as directors to help crack the story. But unfortunately, this constant change in staff led to a mess.
“It was weeks of people not getting along, and it erupted.” an insider shared with the outlet.
Trying to get rid of the messy situation and also to get Secret Invasion back on track when it was falling behind schedule, the Studios dispatched Jonathan Schwartz, a senior executive and member of Marvel’s creative committee. In this way, Marvel replaced a good portion of the show’s team and ended up turning Secret Invasion into the worst-rated show.
