Brendan Fraser Badly Damaged His Body

In an interview, the Gods and Monsters star shared that he looked completely different at the beginning of his career but has no ambitions to go back to the same stage. Fraser, who was tremendously ripped and well known for his muscles to the audience, revealed the true pain that he had to bear for that look and image. The actor talked about how he had to be his own stuntman just because of his muscular physique.

The Crash star shared the number of injuries his body took while shooting those action scenes. His body had to go through multiple surgeries at different places. Not only physically these incidents hampered the psychological well-being of the superstar. Fraser added that his every performance on-screen had some off-screen self-sacrifices. The actor shared his experience of shooting the third sequel of The Mummy where he had to rely on muscle tapes and ice packs, all this just to go through the scenes.

“I got a little banged up from years of doing my own stunts and needed a surgical fix on the spine and the hinges. Those physical performances, whether fighting, dancing, or comedy, had an element of self-sacrifice. But it wasn’t very clever of me at all.”

Brendan Fraser Admits Going Through A Phase of Self-Loathing

Brendan Fraser who was the mainstream star back in the 1990s and early 2000s went on an extended hiatus following his Golden Globes sexual assault. On being questioned if the star went through the phase of self-hatred and criticization. The George of the Jungle star openly admits it and shared that he believed he could only earn and work well in the film industry by maintaining his admirable physique, back in the day. The actor admitted that he carries absolutely no desire to get back to his old shape but has learned a lot through those experiences.

“Absolutely there was self-loathing. I think on some level I felt I deserved [a beating] and wanted to be the one to get in the first punch. I’m older now; I don’t look the way I did in those days, and I don’t necessarily want to. But I’ve made peace with who I am now. And I’m glad that the work I can do is based in an emotional reality that’s not my own life but is one that I can strongly identify with.”
