James Bond has been an iconic role for decades. Charles Dance is a highly respected actor who has been a part of some of the biggest movies and television shows. He has done some roles that he is very proud of while he has also let go of some roles that he regrets to date. He will not be the first actor to regret not taking a role and unfortunately, he will not be the last.

There have been many actors who got the best of the best roles to themselves but gave them away for some or other reason. This has been an ongoing process for years. From Leonardo DiCaprio skipping out of American Psycho to Brad Pitt not taking the role of Neo in The Matrix, everyone has had their fair share of hits and misses.

Charles Dances Did Not Audition For James Bond Despite Wanting To

Charles Dance revealed that once Roger Moore stepped down from the iconic role of James Bond, there was an opening for the role which the actor had been eager to fill in. He was ready to audition for the role and hopefully get it as well. His excitement had been off the charts and he did not want to miss out on this opportunity.

“No, of course I didn’t turn down James Bond! What happened was, my agent called and said, ‘I urge you not to do it. Just think how you’ll feel if you don’t get it. It will kill your career stone-dead.’ She was probably right. If I’d got it, I would have probably f**ked it up.”

Had it not been for his agent, the Game of Thrones actor would have tried out for the role and would have either been crushed intensely because of not getting it or would have somehow managed to mess it up. This was because he often believes that he is not fit to be in a lead role for a series or a movie.

Charles Dance Did Get A Chance To Be In A James Bond Movie

Even before Roger Moore decided to step away from the role after 1985’s A View To Kill, Charles Dance had already gotten a chance to be in a James Bond movie. Although it was not in the way he would have liked, the actor played the role of Claus in the movie in 1981’s For Your Eyes Only.
