The God of War franchise is thriving with Christopher Judge as the new father Kratos after Cory Barlog took over the franchise. With an emotional storyline about revenge and fatherhood in 2018’s God of War, the franchise released a sequel.

God of War: Ragnarok recently found fame once again with the release of the free DLC called Valhalla (not to be confused with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla). With Kratos fighting ghosts from his past, Christopher Judge’s character is met with a young Kratos in the DLC. Judge, with all the respect in his heart, refused to voice the character of Young Kratos.

Christopher Judge Refused To Voice A Young Kratos

With the recent DLC titled Valhalla making rounds, Judge’s character of Kratos is met with a young and rage-filled Kratos from the original God of War trilogy by David Jaffe. Fans will remember that Kratos who was initially a slave to Ares revolted and killed him to become the God of War.

Later on, the franchise explored Kratos fighting against Zeus and killing him at the end of God of War 3. After Cory Barlog took over the franchise, the 2018 God of War was a different direction for Kratos and his son Atreus (who wasn’t there before). In a recent live stream with Streamily, Christopher Judge revealed that he could never voice a Young Kratos because he had too much respect for the original voice actor T.C. Carson.

“I never watched any of the scenes from the earlier [God of Wars] because Carson’s so great. I thought it would be a disservice to try to voice match him or anything, nor did they ask for it.”

The actor further revealed that a project did ask him to imitate the voice of a Young Kratos but Judge simply said no.

“Absolutely not, I love this dude. That would be such a slight. We are not celebrated for what we, as individuals, bring to stuff. That’s across the board, no matter what you do. I just think it’s inherently wrong to try to commandeer something that someone else has already established.”

Not only the actor but the team at Santa Monica Studios also felt the same way about T.C. Carson, as Judge revealed in his social media post.

The team at Santa Monica Studio is more like a family rather than just a team of professional workers. Although Cory Barlog took over the franchise, Santa Monica Studio hasn’t forgotten its roots. Having a massive respect for the lore of the God of War, Christopher Judge took to his X to compliment the actor.

“Just to clarify, NO ONE at @SonySantaMonica asked me to voice match TC. The respect for what he did as Kratos goes from top to bottom. It was another game that asked me to do a voice match (not War for Wakanda)”

With high ratings and Kratos being a responsible father instead of a rage machine, God of War: Ragnarok and its free DLC Valhalla are exclusively available to buy for the PS4 and the PS5.
