“Every time I see Ben Stiller, I am like, ‘Dude, come on.’ Arctic Lightning – That’s the sequel to Tropical Thunder. You go opposites. It was such a fun movie to do but it was hard – My god, if you could get that group of people together again… forget about it – It [the sequel] would get canceled, but it would be worth it.”

Black explained that the filming conditions were terrible as they were in the middle of Hawaii surrounded by jungles, but he admitted that it was a fun movie to film. The majority of the film was shot on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i.

At the time of its release, the film was criticized for its depiction of disabled people and the use of blackface makeup. Despite the controversies, the film was well-received by the fans as the film was praised for its characters, story, faux trailers, and cast performances. The film solidified Robert Downey Jr‘s place as a talented star in Hollywood as his performance in the film earned him nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award.

At the global box office, the film managed to make more than $195 million on a budget of $92 million. The film is indeed very iconic but a sequel, with a similar theme to the first film, would not work today as the world has changed a lot since then.
