Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has exceeded all expectations and delivered a narratively satisfying sequel that is thrilling and ambitious. The director did not fall into the sequel trap and successfully elevated the narrative of the Dune lore that was established with the first film. The ensemble cast contributed to the intensity and the emotional stakes of the story.
The film has done incredibly well at the box office and audiences can’t get enough of the film and are going multiple times to experience it again. A new trailer for a game based on the Dune universe titled Dune: Awakening recently revealed its trailer. Unlike Dune 2, fans are not impressed with the look of the game and called it a cash-grab effort.
Fans Are Not Happy With The Trailer for Dune: Awakening
The Dune franchise is now at its peak as Denis Villeneuve’s follow-up to 2021’s Dune has shattered box office expectations and reviews from audiences. Dune: Part Two continues the ambitious storytelling that started with Part 1 and improves upon it with its evolved characters and sprawling visuals. The film is expected to amass a huge box office number by the end of its theatrical run.
Outside of film, the franchise is getting a new representation in gaming, through a new MMO game based on the Dune universe called Dune: Awakening. The trailer of the game was recently released and it seems fans are not impressed with the visuals of the game, getting unfavorable comparisons with the films.
Many already believe that the game will flop hard when it is released. Some are even calling the game a cash grab, where their sole intention is to just milk money out of the franchise’s brand. Here are some of the reactions on X,
Creating an MMO based on a hype of a Movie series is a bad idea. It'll end up flopping, like Defiance did.

There is also a section of fans who are cautiously optimistic and are looking forward to playing the game. While the game’s visuals are reminiscent of Villeneuve’s films, it remains to be seen whether it tells an ambitious narrative like his films. The release date of the game has not been announced yet but it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Denis Villeneuve Believes Cinema Will Thrive With Creative Freedom and Risk-Taking
Denis Villeneuve continues to push the boundaries of big-budget filmmaking with his Dune films. Dune: Part Two continues his efforts to present audiences with something inventive and visually satisfying. The director believes that audiences seek new things that they’ve never seen before and filmmakers should strive to provide that for them.
He points out that creativity is restrictive in the current state of Hollywood. However, he feels that cinema will only thrive when filmmakers take risks and provide an unprecedented experience for audiences on the big screen. He told Time Magazine,
“We’re in a very conservative time; creativity is restricted. Everything’s about Wall Street. What will save cinema is freedom and taking risks. And you feel the audience is excited when they see something they haven’t seen before.”
Dune: Part Two has performed very well in its opening weekend and audiences are going multiple times to see the film. One can expect a huge box office number by the end of its theatrical run. Fans can experience Dune: Part Two at a theatre near them.
