Ryan Reynolds has established himself as the jack of all trades, from the master of TikTok to one of the most entertaining A-tier actors in the movie industry. People would give him all sorts of titles, as they believe that Reynolds’ films are commercially one of the best successes at the box office. The actor has not only a successful record in films but also in being a part of some most popular TV Shows of all time.
Some of his most popular works are Deadpool, Buried, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Free Guy, and many more. And it looks like Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy is getting a sequel as the director of the film, Shawn Levy has dropped an optimistic hint to the fans of the film.
Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy Are Optimistic About Free Guy 2
As viewers of the film remember, Free Guy tells the story of Guy portrayed by Ryan Reynolds situated in the virtual world of Free City. Soon, he learns that he is not like other characters of the video game, as he has his own free will and uses it to write his destiny. The story is full of laughs and action with a unique concept like Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Shawn Levy, the director of the first film is still optimistic for Free Guy 2, as the idea of a sequel has not been given a green light. During an exclusive interview with Wired, the Deadpool 3 director expressed his interest and enthusiasm for the possible project, despite the project being in a “big maybe” stage at this point, Ryan Reynolds and Levy have a strong desire to see the idea come to life.
“It’s been floated, it floats, because Ryan and I love that movie. I’d say it’s a big maybe, but boy it would sure make us happy.”
While the idea of a possible sequel sounds good, the project would take some time as it focuses on a wild yet gripping storyline. As the director expresses his and Ryan Reynolds’ intention of a sequel, he shares how Barbie’s storyline has made an indelible mark, adding unforeseen complexity to their plans.

Shawn Levy on Barbie’s Success Altered Free Guys 2 Storyline
Even though Free Guy accumulated $323 million at the worldwide box office, the path to a sequel will not be easy for a virtual simulation film. Shawn Levy shares how the massive success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has changed the idea and trajectory of the storyline of the sequel. During an exclusive interview with Collider, Levy expresses his concern about Free Guy 2’s storyline as both films focused on showing the lives of fictional characters attaining self-awareness of how the real world works.
“I think it is definitely not assured. We love ‘Free Guy’ and the love for ‘Free Guy’ that has kind of resonated in aftershocks, if you will, in the last couple of years. That’s been thrilling to Ryan [Reynolds] and I. We are developing a sequel, but the truth is that you now have ‘Barbie’ that has obviously left a mark about a character in a fictional world who comes to self-awareness. So, we’re only gonna make ‘Free Guy 2’ if it’s different than the first movie and if it’s different from other movies.”
The idea of fictional characters attaining self-awareness adds a new complexity in filmmaking that makes sure how there will be differences in storytelling giving fresh narratives to the audience, and it will be quite intriguing to see what Free Guy 2 comes up with if the sequel is given a green light.
Free Guy can be streamed on Disney+.
