At the movie’s debut at the London International Film Festival, director Rian Johnson held a session where he discussed the upcoming sequel and revealed details about Daniel Craig’s character’s private life.

According to Slash Films, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, shows a quick scene in which detective Benoit is seen coupled up with a mysterious guy who refers to him as “Blanc” as a term of endearment. While the movie swiftly moves past the scene, so as to keep the audience on their toes, Johnson reveals that the guy is definitely Benoit Blanc’s lover.

When asked if the detective was gay, Rian Johnson candidly replied, “Yes, he obviously is.”

Speaking with Above the Line about the same, the Star Wars director opened up more about the detective’s sexuality. While the sequel confirms his sexuality, it doesn’t revolve around it.

“If you watch the movie, I think it’s made explicit. In terms of exploring it, I mean, maybe, but with these movies, I mean, they’re not really about the detective’s sexuality. [But] it’s baked into the genre a little bit [when] the detective is kind of set outside the realm of the human drama that’s going on with the rest of the suspects, so I’m sure it’ll come into play because it’s a big part of who he is, obviously. It’s just a fact about his character.”

This would mean that while the sequel only confirms the sexuality of the private detective, that’s where it ends. Fans could see more into the personal life of Benoit Blanc, in the future parts of the film. While Knives Out 3 is not confirmed, it looks like if the movie does happen, it will revolve more around the detective’s personal affairs, including his sexuality.

“There’s a perception that everything leaks online, but I think for someone who’s just casually online, I think generally people see a movie and they like the experience, and part of the experience is enjoying the surprises. They’re gonna wanna maintain those surprises for their friends and everything.”

He hopes that the sequel turns out to be a film that people keep in their hearts for a long time. He wants people to love the movie so much that they end up recommending it to their family and friends, much like the classic movies.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is all set for a limited release in theatres on November 23, 2022, and can be streamed on Netflix starting December 23, 2022.
