Glen Powell is a busy man, navigating his new-found stardom after starring in the Shakespeare-inspired Anyone But You rom-com and juggling his time to manage his future projects expected to release the next year. One of them is Twisters, which was earlier being said by anyone and everyone that it is the remake, reboot, or sequel to the original 1996 box office hit of the movie, Twister.

Powell, however, in a new interview has claimed that it isn’t either of the above mentioned but a completely different movie. It looks like he isn’t taking Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake route, which fans have been hating for a long time now.

The 1996 blockbuster Twister has been long forgotten, however, ever since the news of Glen Powell starrer Twisters hit media, the buzz surrounding the movie has returned. Many fans, at first, exclaimed that they would love to see a modern version of the long-forgotten classic.

However, the only thing similar between the original Twister and the new Twisters is the slightly similar name, as Powell’s recent remarks make apparent. Earlier it was being reported that the movie might be a remake, a reboot, or rather a sequel. But it is none as Powell exclaimed in an interview with Vogue,

“It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one. It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern-day.”

While many fans on X showcased their dismay over his comments about the movie being a stand-alone and called it a ‘smart case of marketing’, others are happy that Powell and the studio aren’t taking Jake Gyllenhaal’s way of making movies, since the actor has been receiving a lot of flak for the way his latest movie Road House remake seems to be turning out.

Ever since Jake Gyllenhaal starrer Road House remake was announced, fans expressed their reservations about the movie and how it might be unable to live up to the original cult classic. Starring Gyllenhaal as Dalton, there haven’t been any trailers for the movie, but Prime Video recently released its upcoming projects preview featuring snippets from the remake.

Even though the said snippets were short, they were enough for fans to know that the remake seems too far from what the original was. While the costumes are certainly there, the aesthetics look out of place, something similar to what modern action movies usually have.

Even Gyllenhaal’s portrayal looked too timid and flaky, unlike Patrick Swayze‘s Dalton in the 1989 original. While the movie does feature a similar violent theme, the snippets almost made it look comical and typical of action movies of today’s age.

However, it is still too early to judge both movies and fans and critics will have to keep their pens and papers down for now and wait until they are released.

Twisters will be released on July 19, 2024, and Road House will premiere on Prime on March 21, 2024, while the originals can be rented on YouTube.
