Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin filed for divorce in 2015 and it was finalized a year later. After his divorce from Paltrow, Martin dated actress Annabelle Wallis very briefly before starting a relationship with Dakota Johnson. The Coldplay singer and the Fifty Shades actress have now been together for over six years.
During this time, Paltrow has often been asked about her relationship with Martin since their divorce and Martin’s relationship with Johnson. In a 2020 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Paltrow had a very candid reaction to a similar question.
“It’s a lifelong commitment to constantly reinvent your relationship with your ex, which you do presumably because you have children together. I don’t see a reason to do it if you don’t have children together.”
Paltrow made the above statement, confirming that she and Martin still maintained a close bond for the sake of their children. At the same time, Paltrow shared she had no qualms about Martin’s relationship with Johnson.
“I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it’s sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her.”
Paltrow made the above comment, implying that Johnson had become a part of her life through her relationship with Martin and their children. The Avengers: Infinity War actress also said that she did not want to be resistant nor did she feel insecure about Martin and Johnson’s relationship.

In 2020, Gwyneth Paltrow first spoke out about the dynamic between herself, Chris Martin, and Dakota Johnson. However, in recent years, Martin and Johnson’s relationship has become more serious and the couple have reportedly moved in together in a house located in Malibu, California.
Meanwhile, Paltrow’s friendship with Johnson only appears to have grown stronger. During an Instagram Q&A session in 2023, Paltrow was asked about her relationship with Johnson and she stated the following (via People):
“We’re actually very good friends. I love her so much. She’s an adorable, wonderful person.”
Paltrow’s words suggest that there is nothing but love and admiration between her and Johnson, which is a solid foundation for their friendship. Paltrow also shared a photo of herself and Johnson holding hands on her Instagram stories. Thus, Paltrow further reiterated that she and Johnson are good friends in real life.
