The cinematographer of Joker: Folie à Deux, Lawrence Sher, has recently shared some intriguing details about the highly anticipated sequel. Starring Joaquin Phoenix alongside Lady Gaga, there are not many details available about the film.

However, there have been discussions that it would be based in the psychiatric hospital Arkham Asylum and would be a musical. And the cinematographer has shared that the sequel will be “surprising” for the audience.

During an interview with Definition Magazine (via Home of DCU), he said, “It’s a pretty risky movie, and it’s going to be surprising for people. I’m so excited for everyone to see it.” He also shared that it is currently in the “final stages of post-production.”

Sher’s statement seemed to suggest that the makers may have taken innovative approaches to the film. Working on Joker Was a Dream Come True For Lawrence Sher

During his recent interview, the cinematographer Lawrence Sher also said that working on Joker with filmmaker Todd Phillips was like “a dream come true” for him. Reflecting on his career, he shared that he enjoyed working on the 2004 romantic comedy Garden State, and called The Hangover the most important movie of his career at that point.

Talking about the 2019 Oscar-winning film, he said, “And then there’s Joker – just to be working on that was a dream come true, even without the awards and everything else.” He also shared his experience working with the Joker director.

“Something I appreciate about Todd Phillips – who I’ve done seven movies with, including Joker – is he’s always taking risks,” he said. Phillips and Sher have worked on The Hangover and Joker film series along with Due Date, and War Dogs. 

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release on October 4, 2024.
