Halle Berry’s multi-picture deal with Netflix started with the success of her 2020 film Bruised. It was her directorial debut and the streamer was impressed with her craftsmanship and the audience viewership of the film. Both parties were set for their next collaboration called The Mothership, a sci-fi adventure film, directed by Matthew Charman.
However, the project fell apart after the shooting was completed in 2021. Recently, Netflix announced that they will not release the film anymore. Now, the reasons for its cancellation have been revealed and one of them is a recurring problem in most long-running teen shows.
Halle Berry’s The Mothership Was Cursed With Production Hell
Halle Berry’s Netflix film The Mothership finished its production work in 2021. However, there was no news about its release for over two years. Recently, Netflix surprised everyone when they announced that they were scrapping the film altogether after spending almost $40 million on the project.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the film faced a lot of problems following the end of principal production. The film required extensive reshoots and scheduling conflicts between the actors caused a problem for it to happen. The strikes also delayed the required reshoots of the film and the aging of the child actors involved in the film caused continuity issues for the project.
The latter aspect was also a problem in shows like Stranger Things where the child actors including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and others have aged significantly when audiences saw them in season 4 compared to the earlier seasons. The Duffer Brothers have taken in this viewpoint and are incorporating a time jump for their final season.
As for The Mothership, Netflix’s content chief Bela Bajaria recently claimed that “there was just a lot of issues during production and so creatively, so everybody just felt like it was the right thing to just not do it”. While both parties might have run into trouble with this project, they are continuing their collaboration as Berry’s The Union is set for a release this August.
Halle Berry Is Thrilled to Work With Angelina Jolie in Maude v Maude
Halle Berry is set to join forces with Angelina Jolie for their action thriller film Maude v Maude. The film is billed as an epic battle between two superspies. The actress talked about her first meeting with Jolie and revealed some information about what audiences can expect from the film.
Berry revealed that she and Jolie had a somewhat rocky start to the film, which she thinks will help in their dynamic confrontation scenes in the film. She teased that the film will be a mix of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mission Impossible with a comedic twist. She also expressed her excitement about working with someone like Jolie and telling the story in the best way possible. She said, (via YouTube)
“It’s sort of a Mr. & Mrs. Smith with women meets and Mission: Impossible with a comedic twist. We’re excited. “We had a rocky start and I think that is going to serve us well in our screen time together. Both actresses are also producing the film and they are expected to start shooting it sometime this year. As of 2024, she will star in the Netflix action thriller The Union alongside Mark Wahlberg which will be released on August 16, 2024.
