The Big Bang Theory is an iconic American sitcom that deals with the adventures of three physicists and an engineer alongside Penny. Created by Chuck Lorre, the creator recently talked about how a spin-off for the series could be possible.
In a different statement, however, Lorre further detailed that the spin-off to The Big Bang Theory could only be done if there is a story worth telling. Canceling the accusations that the spin-off would be on Max, Lorre corrected his statement.
The Big Bang Theory Needs A Good Spin-off Story
With Chuck Lorre as the series creator of The Big Bang Theory, the American sitcom ended with Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler winning a Nobel Prize for their work. Since Jim Parsons did not return for a 13th season, the sitcom was canceled after a run of 12 seasons.
Talking about a possible spin-off to the series, creator Chuck Lorre clarified the announcement. Back in April, it was announced that the universe will continue to expand with a spin-off on Max. In a recent interview on TV’s Top 5, however, Lorre stated that there has been no such confirmation so far.
“Nothing’s wound up at Max, first of all. I don’t know what you were told. But we have nothing in place at Max. Zero, nothing. No one knows anything about what this is, other than the people that have been working on it with me. And so nothing has been pitched, nothing’s been placed. So it’s all very prenatal.”
Lorre further revealed that he isn’t a fan of spin-offs or sequels and he would only continue with the project if the work is worth something.
The Big Bang Theory Spin-off Will Only Be Made If It Is Funny!
Talking about how his work always has a meaning, Chuck Lorre revealed that the alleged The Big Bang Theory spin-off could only work if it is funny. Revealing that the idea must be fresh and something new, Lorre stated that there’s no point in being greedy.
” We haven’t presented this to anyone. I’m not a big fan of spinoffs or stuff like that, unless it just feels like… wonderful, fresh. This could conceivably be very different and also very funny. That’s the reason to go forward, not to keep digging in the same mine for the same precious minerals. It’s about doing something worth doing. Otherwise, it’s greedy. There’s no reason for that.”
Although the world would love to see The Big Bang Theory universe continue to expand, Lorre’s statements were indeed true that there’s no point in greed. As for the original iconic series, The Big Bang Theory, starring Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
