Mark Wahlberg is one of the most well-known and talented actors in Hollywood. While he has starred in many respected and well-known projects, the one thing he has gained a reputation for throughout the film industry is his dedication to the roles he plays. Not only emotionally and as an actor, but also physically.
Wahlberg has become known for having some of the most complex and hardcore workout routines for the roles he plays, pushing his body as much as physically possible and enjoying every second of it. Having done it so many times in the past, one would expect nothing in the world of exercise to be foreign to him. However, his most recent part in Arthur the King seems to be a new level of challenge for him.
Mark Wahlberg Thought Training for Arthur the King Would Be Easy
Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming film, Arthur the King, is set to release in theaters soon, being based on the real-life story of Mikael Lindnord. The film follows the story of Michael Light, an adventure racer who has made it his life’s goal to win a race he has lost far too many times. While he was in the Dominican Republic, he came across a dog, whom he named Arthur, and grew to care for him deeply.
The actor recently gave an interview with ScreenRant where he touched on many different aspects of the film, including the adventure racer part of his character. The actor revealed that when he took on the role, he had a very slim idea of what this sport was. He understood that there were many different physical activities involved, including trekking, biking, and kayaking.
” I was like, “Okay!” I knew there were miles and miles of hiking, climbing, cycling and kayaking. So I was just kind of doing all that stuff and thinking, Okay, I just want to look believable as an adventure racer.” said Wahlberg.
His goal was to make his performance look as believable as possible. However, he would soon learn the true essence of the sport and how challenging it truly is.
Mark Wahlberg Was Deeply Mistaken
Mark Wahlberg was under the impression that adventure racing was a test of physicality; seeing which person in a race can finish the fastest. He thought that when he was playing the character of Michael Light, the task for him would be to grow physically stronger. The actor very quickly realized that he was wrong and started to understand the true intention of the sport.
“But I didn’t really understand that it’s not about the physicality, it’s about who can suffer more, who can endure more. And who can outlast the other guys and just suck up the pain more than everybody else.” said the actor.
Wahlberg realized that the sport is not trying to test physical strength, but the pain tolerance of its participants. It wants to see who can endure the most amount of agony. Who will lose first and who will outlast the rest? It is safe to say that this epiphany would have come as quite a shock to him.
Arthur the King is set to release in theaters on March 15th, 2024.
