The latest updates regarding Sicario 3 have revealed the involvement of the Mission Impossible writer-director. The 2015 Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin starrer Sicario is considered to be one of the most influential action films of the 2010s. Beyond its box office success, the movie was also critically acclaimed and landed three nominations at the 88th Academy Awards.
Following the release of its 2018 sequel, which did not feature Blunt, there have been several discussions about a third installment with an anticipation of bringing Kate Macer back into the series.
Sicario 3 Producer Shares Christopher McQuarrie’s Involvement
The third installment in the action thriller movie series Sicario has been under development for a while. Earlier this year, it was revealed that its script was being written, and the producer Molly Smith has recently shared new updates related to the anticipated threequel.
During an interview with Collider, she revealed that they have some of the best people in their creative team, including the Mission Impossible writer-director Christopher McQuarrie. However, she did not specify his role in the production team. Smith said,
“But we don’t know who’s going to direct yet. It’s all gonna be about timing. We’ve got obviously a wealth of great partners on it, everybody from Taylor Sheridan to Chris McQuarrie as a partner on it, but it’ll all be about the timing and what aligns with everyone’s schedule.”
McQuarrie is known for his work on Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible franchise. He is also known for being a talented screenwriter, having worked on critically acclaimed movies Edge of Tomorrow and Top Gun: Maverick and winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects. The filmmaker has been working on the next installment of the Mission Impossible franchise.
Emily Blunt is Expected to Return in Sicario 3
The 2015 film featured Emily Blunt as Kate Macer, an FBI Special Agent who is tasked with bringing down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin also starred alongside Blunt. While Del Toro and Brolin returned in the sequel, it did not bring back Kate Macer.
The producers have revealed that Sicario 3 could bring back the trio from the first film, as they are willing to return. “Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh,” the producers revealed, as per Collider. They also shared that they have kept everyone in the loop. There are not many details available about the plot or the release date of the threequel.
Sicario movies are available on Prime Video.
