The Batman star confided that he was kind of terrified by Dafoe’s commendable work ethic. He shared,

“We’d rehearse the entire movie, and then the second we got to the end, he’s like, ‘Again!’ and just start doing it again, and his energy hadn’t even been dented.”

The two actors played the roles of two lighthouse keepers on a remote island who start having mysterious visions as days go by.

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe channel their feral side for The Lighthouse

The Twilight Saga star shared in an interview with Esquire that the two actors were asked to work on their feral mindset as their characters were shown having strange visions. He shared that they were allowed to do weird activities. Pattinson shared,

“Because you’re playing a mad person, it means you can sort of be mad the whole time. Well, not the whole time, but for like an hour before the scene. You can literally just be sitting on the floor growling and licking up puddles of mud.”

“I spent so much time making myself throw up. Pissing my pants. It’s the most revolting thing. I don’t know, maybe it’s really annoying.”

Pattinson also shared that he and Dafoe had once got drunk in real life on the sets of the film to realistically play the role of intoxicated lighthouse keepers. He shared,

“There’s a scene where Willem’s kind of sleeping on me and we’re really, really drunk. I felt like we’re completely lost in the scene and I’m sitting there trying to make myself gag and Robert [Eggers] told me off because Willem’s looking at him going: ‘If he throws up on me, I’m leaving the set.’ I had absolutely no idea this whole drama was unfolding.”

The film was released on 18 October 2019 with a gross profit of $18 million.

The Lighthouse is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
