Dune may have been released two years ago in 2021, but the craze for the blockbuster movie is still as strong as ever. And so is the hype for the director of the masterpiece, Denis Villeneuve. Not only have fans completely grown on the filmmaker and his remarkable directing skills which brought to them the 2021 blockbuster, but even hearing about new book-based movies from the director is more than enough to leave fans ecstatic.
That’s exactly how fans reacted when the Oscar-nominated Dune screenwriter Eric Roth recently announced that he wrote an epic space and time drama for Villeneuve, that only hints at one thing previously teased by the filmmaker: an adaptation for Rendezvous With Rama.

Previously, following the massive success of the globally loved masterpiece Dune in 2022, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve appeared on an episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast to share about other projects on his docket at the time.
Among these was another book-based movie Rendezvous with Rama, which the director called, “‘Arrival’ on steroids”. Furthermore, he also shared that the screenplay for this film will start soon.
More than a year after Villeneuve’s revelation, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Roth recently revealed a similar indirect update on the film on Episode 79 of the Script Apart podcast. He said:
“I just wrote a movie for Denis Villeneuve… We’ll see what ends up happening with it, but it’s about space and time, and it’s very lonely. It’s certainly about eternity.”
Although he didn’t name the film or share any other clear updates about the movie, his comment was traced back to Villeneuve talking about “‘Arrival’ on steroids” and fans just can’t wait for further updates about the filmmaker’s next presumed masterpiece.
Johnny Sobczak, an NC Films Critic member, covered about the same on his X-handle @JohnnySobczak. He wrote:

Though it hasn’t even been that long since the release of the podcast and this news, fans are already bursting with excitement about Denis Villeneuve’s epic new space-time drama Rendezvous with Rama, expecting it to rival even the late Stanley Kubrick‘s A Space Odyssey masterpieces.

I was a big time Arthur C Clarke fan as a boy. I will become the most zealous fanboy if Villeneuve adapts Rendezvous with Rama.
