Playing the role of Rue Bennett in the HBO show, Zendaya appeared alongside Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie Howard for two seasons. But now, although Zendaya seems eager to return, despite HBO previously rejecting her ideas, the actress appears completely unaware as to when Euphoria season 3 will begin production.

Zendaya Claimed to be in the Dark About Euphoria S3 Progress

Despite the excitement surrounding the HBO teen drama Euphoria, there seems little to no update about the progress of the show. After running successfully for two seasons, although Euphoria creators promised Season 3, the show seemed to face repeated delays and rescheduling due to multiple reasons. Initially plagued by the Hollywood strikes and Angus Cloud’s demise, Euphoria then began facing scheduling issues with the cast members.

Recently, adding insult to injury, Euphoria actress Zendaya admitted being in the dark about when season 3 will be getting underway. Despite being an executive producer of the HBO series, the actress upset fans by stating that she’s “not in charge” of whether the show will return or not. Although she is eager to play her onscreen character Rue Bennett, Zendaya is unaware if she will even reunite with Sydney Sweeney‘s Cassie Howard.

I don’t know. I am not in charge. If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course. But it’s beyond me.” Zendaya told Variety.

Previously HBO confirmed in a statement that Euphoria season 3 will still be released in 2025. But with scripts still unfinished and storylines up in the air, fans believe the show will take a lot more time than what’s been claimed. It seems Sam Levinson is struggling mightily with the scripts after HBO allegedly rejected Zendaya’s ideas.

HBO had Allegedly Ditched Zendaya’s Euphoria Pitch

According to Variety reports, the Dune actress who’s in high demand in the film world, has enjoyed a creatively symbiotic relationship with Sam Levinson, from the beginning of Euphoria. Therefore, while starring and producing the show, Zendaya offered Levinson significant input for where she would like the show’s Season 3 to go.

Sources claimed that the ideas that Zendaya had pitched for season 3 scripts, included “very compelling” arcs for Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi. But unfortunately, after the revised scripts were submitted by Sam Levinson, HBO reportedly shot down a proposed arc for Zendaya’s Rue. The outlet claimed,

Rue was ‘relegated to the background in a somewhat surprising storyline about her working as a private detective’

Among many other ideas that were sent for rewrites by HBO, one pitch from Zendaya saw Rue, who is now sober as a twentysomething young woman, to be a pregnancy surrogate. While Zendaya’s ideas were called “terrible” by a few fans, others seemingly attacked HBO’s decision to discard them. But overall, Euphoria now seems to be struggling with script among other issues that are causing a delay in production.

Euphoria is available on Max.
