Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has established itself as one of the best TV Series of the MonsterVerse in no time. The fifth installment of the MonsterVerse franchise tends to finally showcase the origins of Monarch, and it is shrouded with mystery as Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell play their characters with a dash of enigma and suspense making the viewers anticipate what would happen in the next episode of the series.
The 10-episode long season is already a hit among the fans, as it sets up events for the future Kaiju projects. However, Matt Shakman, the director of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has a piece of bad news to share with the fans of the show, as he decided not to talk about the future of the show and he gave a cryptic response for the future projects of the franchise.
Matt Shakman’s Vague Response For Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
During an exclusive interview with Inverse, Matt Shakman was asked about the future of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The director did not confirm that a 2nd season of the show will take place. However, he gave an ambiguous statement when asked more about the future of the show.
“I can’t speak about future plans for Monarch just because we’re so excited about launching our first season. But it’s definitely a part of this Monsterverse and we were excited about that opportunity.”
Matt Shakman’s concerns about the future of the show are justifiable as Skull Island for season 2 which is available on Netflix has not been renewed by them. As a result, it does not give much hope to the director about another season of the show. Since there are a number of factors that affect the possibility of a second season, let’s have a look at the chances of the show getting another season on the OTT platform.
What Are the Chances of Getting a Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters
Matt Shakman’s concerns are legitimate as MonsterVerse itself is a relatively newer franchise as compared to other popular franchises. Hence, it is still difficult to state if the live-action shows will be interconnected like Marvel Cinematic Universe’s television branch. Skull Island, the franchise’s first animated television show is available on Netflix, but they have still not decided if they want to renew the show for a second season or not.
Moreover, Apple TV is also waiting to see how Monarch: Legacy of Monsters performs till the season’s finale and if the show can bring in large amounts of new subscribers. In addition to meeting the expectations of the streaming platform, Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell are immensely popular actors who have a high demand. Especially Wyatt Russell after he committed himself to the MCU by playing the role of a US Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hence, the show must meet their demands and dates so that they can be featured in the 2nd season as well.
The new episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters airs on Apple TV+ weekly on Fridays.
