Scarlett Johansson became a world-wide famous actress with her role as Black Widow in the Marvel projects. She made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with Iron Man 2 and worked in the sequels as well. Johansson was also part of The Avengers franchise, which became one of highest highest-grossing films of Hollywood. However, it was not easy to do stunts for superhero comic book-based action films.
Johansson revealed in an interview about her experience of doing the difficult stunts in The Avengers films. She shared about the excruciating process of learning the stunts.
Scarlett Johansson on doing stunts in The Avengers
Scarlett Johansson played the character of Black Widow in the Marvel projects. She shared that she knew The Avengers was a big-budget film when the second assistant director was having a difficult time handling the chaos. She said,
“All you had to do was look at our second assistant director to know it was a giant production because he was tearing his eyeballs out.”
She shared that the action scenes in the MCU films consumed lots of money and countless hours. Hence, Johansson had to give the perfect performance. She also had to react to imaginary events, which would be added in the post-production through digital effects.
The actress shared in conversation with Success,
“I have to say—doing the stunt work—it’s not the day you’re shooting that’s most difficult. It’s all the hours you spend learning it. Once you’re shooting it, it’s definitely exhausting because of the repetition, but you’ve already gone through the most painful part of the process, which is learning the choreography of the fights.”
“Especially because you have a tight timeframe to learn everything. If you’re lagging or there are things, you’re unsure of, you just beat it into the ground until you get it. You have no choice.”
Black Widow was released in 2021 and grossed $379.8 million globally.
Scarlett Johansson dyed her hair red even before getting Black Widow’s role
Scarlett Johansson had already become an established actress before her Marvel debut. However, the actress was keen on getting the role. As per the reports, Emily Blunt was the original choice for the role of Black Widow. The character was created in Iron Man 2.
Hence, when Emily Blunt rejected the role due to a conflicting schedule, Johansson wasted no time and met director Jon Favreau for the character. The actress dyed her hair red for the meeting with the director, as she knew if she got the role, she would be attached to the film for a long duration. She was also ready to do hardcore stunts and actions in Marvel projects.
Favreau was impressed by her action scenes in the film. He shared his views at the San Diego Comic-Con,
“All the fighting and wire work is her own. She worked really hard, and it shows on the screen.”
Scarlett Johansson was part of The Avengers franchise from 2012 to 2019.
The Avengers is available for streaming on Disney+.
