Among many amazing things that our favorite Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford has done with his life, is being a real-life hero to numerous distressed adventurers. Well, apparently, the former Boy Scout is known for rescuing stranded people from mountain tops with his proclivity for flying and a desire to truly help people.
According to reports, Harrison Ford is often known for venturing on his rescue missions with his helicopter to save stranded hikers. But unfortunately, the actor revealed in 2023, that he stopped rescuing hikers after one incident that turned him into a famed hero. Unwilling to make headlines for his humanitarian works, Ford refrained from continuing his good deeds.
Harrison Ford Stopped His Rescue Mission After Annoying Headlines
Not many people know, but Hollywood legends Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford share one thing in common – both stars have a penchant for flying. However, while Cruise often flies his jet out of passion, Ford appears to have a more philanthropic reason to spin the blades of his helicopter.
According to reports from THR, the iconic Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford made headlines for setting out on a rescue mission to save stranded hikers with his helicopter. It was back in 2000 when Ford saved Sarah George (20 at that time), from being stranded on Table Mountain in Wyoming.
“Well, one time we picked up this woman who was hypothermic on the mountain. She barfed in my cowboy hat but didn’t know who I was until the next day.”
Sarah George was undoubtedly grateful to Harrison Ford for saving her life, but the actor revealed in 2023 that he would probably never do it again. Clarifying that he would never ignore the plight of someone in trouble, the actor noted that he no longer helps with rescue missions because of the annoying headlines that come with it.
“I stopped doing it because we would be lucky enough to find somebody, and then they’d be on Good Morning America talking about ‘a hero pilot’. It’s nothing f*cking like that. It’s a team effort. It’s lame to think about it that way.”
Although Harrison Ford had never expected to make headlines for his good deeds, the stranded hikers who were saved by him, went straight to the media to offer the actor, the credit he deserved.
Rescued Hiker Opened Up About Harrison Ford’s Helicopter Mission
Harrison Ford had saved stranded Sarah George from Table Mountain in Wyoming, where hours of heat, altitude, and dehydration had almost wrecked her health. However, right after being rescued, the 20-year-old went to ABC News (via The Independent) to discuss her experience of being saved by the legend himself.
“He was wearing a T-shirt and a cowboy hat. He didn’t look like I’d ever seen him before. I can’t believe I barfed in Harrison Ford’s helicopter.”
This particular report from Sarah George took the media by storm, and headlines started pumping Harrison Ford as a real-life superhero. Not just George, but there was also Cody Clawson (13 back then) who was saved by Ford, and later went public to discuss his experience much like George.
This was something that the actor highly despised, which eventually led him to continue his good deeds for a few years and then ultimately put a halt. Known for being a hero onscreen, Harrison Ford didn’t want to be a superhero in real life. Simply putting his helicopter to good use and sharpening his Boy Scout skills, Ford often ventured on his rescue mission.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t initially aware that his humanitarian works would turn into annoying headlines that would make him look like a hero. Therefore, eventually, Harrison Ford had to finally stop his rescue work, to avoid publicity.
