Following Rocky Johnson’s birthday on August 24th, Dwayne Johnson opened up about how hard it has been to deal with his father’s passing. The pro-wrestling icon, often regarded as a “trailblazer” within the wrestling world, passed away on January 15, 2020, due to a medical condition known as pulmonary embolism. He was 75 years old at the time of his death.

Contemplating his father’s passing, Johnson expressed that amidst the tribulations and heartache, he felt a drive to seek out the blessings hidden around him. Following was what his emotional Instagram post detailed:

Drawing inspiration from the resilient attitude his father was highly regarded for, the Red Notice actor remarked:

“That was always my dad’s way. Days are tough, life is hard. Get used to it. He’d always say, ‘a day without pain is like a day without sunshine.’ I think about you often. The lessons. The stuff.”

Accompanying the heartfelt caption was a video capturing the funeral ceremony held to honor Rocky Johnson. The footage featured Dwayne Johnson delivering a touching eulogy in front of his friends and family. In the 10-minute video, he recounted the abrupt and profound loss he had experienced, sharing how challenging it had been to confront the harsh reality of the situation.

In a separate post shared earlier this year, Johnson affirmed that just a month before his father’s passing, the two had engaged in a heated argument. The renowned Jumanji actor never had the opportunity to reconcile or bid a final farewell to his father. This incident had a deeply distressing effect on him. Despite the complicated nature of their father-son bond, The Rock had nothing but sincere admiration for his late father.

To not even get the chance to say a proper goodbye must’ve left the Hollywood star with several regrets. In the soul-stirring eulogy, Dwayne Johnson said the following:

“Man, I wish I had one more shot. I wish I had one more shot to say goodbye … to say I love you, to say thank you, but I have a feeling he’s watching. […] You know how you have those moments where you try and shake yourself out of it, and you’re like ‘No, it’s not a dream. … My dad’s gone.'”

The heartbreaking news came to Dwayne Johnson on the very first day of production for the Gal Gadot starrer, Red Notice. He felt lost at the time, not knowing what to do. However, he felt the voice of his father say, “Well, hey, the show must go on.” And that it did.
