Guillermo del Toro Has Mixed Feelings About His Unrealized Star Wars Film
Renowned director Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct a Star Wars project back in the day. However, the project got scrapped and did not see the light of day. The director recently reflected on this unrealized project and revealed various aspects of what his Star Wars film was going to be.
While speaking to Collider‘s Steven Weintraub, the director revealed that his Star Wars film was going to focus on Jabba the Hutt. Despite extensive preparations, the project ultimately did not materialize and the opportunity went away. He said,
“In the last moment, things go away; I’ve had it happen many, many, many times. We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy. We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property,
It’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.’”
It would have been exciting to have witnessed del Toro’s touch on the popular IP. The director would have surely brought something unique and exciting to the lore of Star Wars that would have made fans of the franchise and George Lucas proud.
Guillermo del Toro Sings Praises of Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn
Emerald Fennell released her second directorial venture this year titled Saltburn, The psychological drama stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, and Richard E. Grant among others. The film seems to have impressed maverick director Guillermo del Toro and he sang praises of the film on X.
In his post, the filmmaker lauded the skillful and audacious filmmaking on display from Fennell and called it an exciting experience. The post read as follows,
“SALTBURN (’23) Was a really exciting and excited filmmaking piece. I didn’t demand of it a moral fable- it was a skillful, audacious and obsessive grotesquerie- a Steadman, a Hogarth- a state of being, remembered by an unreliable narrator- heightened by his memory & desire.”
The film has also received positive reviews from critics and audiences. Pike and Keoghan have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.
